At Czarcrest Westies, each litter is an "event".....having been looked forward to with much anticipation.  By remaining a small breeder, we have never lost sight of the fact that each of our new puppy owners is making a commitment to another family member that will be loved and cherished for a decade or more!

We work extensively with diet, feeding for optimum health.  We have a true love for the breed and no expense or effort is ever spared with regard to the care and health of our puppies.

We spend a lot of time with new puppy owners, getting them off to a good start, including housebreaking procedures.  We are always available on an ongoing basis to answer questions and support new puppy owners.

All Czarcrest puppies are lovingly raised in our home in Schererville, Indiana.  Each puppy is given the individual attention which will afford them the best opportunity for a successful transition to their new homes and families.

A Breeder's Prayer

I love my little puppy; she makes my house a home.

She is my very sweetest little friend; I never feel alone.
She makes me smile; She makes me laugh; She fills my heart with love...
Did some person breed her, or did she fall from above?

I've never been a breeder, never seen life through their eyes;
I hold my little puppy and just sit and criticize.
I've never known their anguish; I've never felt their pain,
The caring of their charges, through snow or wind or rain.

I've never waited the whole night through for babies to be born,
The stress and trepidation when they're still not there by morn.
The weight of responsibility for this body in my hands,
This darling little baby, who weighs but 60 grams.

Should you do that instead of this... or maybe that was wrong?
Alone you fight and hope, one day, he'll grow up proud and strong.
You pray he'll live to bring great joy to someone else's home.
You know it's all just up to you; you'll fight this fight alone.

Formula, bottles, heating pads, you've got to get this right,
Two-hour feedings for this tiny guy, throughout the day and night.
Within your heart you dread that you will surely lose this fight,
To save this little baby, but God willing... you just MIGHT.

Day one; he's in there fighting; you say a silent prayer.
Day two & three, he's doing well, with lots of love and care.
Day four & five... he's still alive; your hopes soar to the heavens.
Day six he slips away again, dies in you hands, day seven.

You take this little angel, and bury him alone.
With aching heart and burning tears, and an exhausted groan,
You ask yourself, "Why do this?...Why suffer through this pain?"
Yet watch the joy your puppies bring, and everything's explained.

So, when you think of breeders and label them with "Greed,"
Think of all that they endure to fill another's need.
For when you buy your puppy, with your precious dollars part,
You only pay with money... while they pay with all their heart.

Czarcrest Westies is always grateful for referrals and testimonials from our many satisfied puppy owners.

Ellen and I contacted Michele in July of 2014.  We had lost our Westie of fifteen years that spring.  We found the Czarcrest Westies website.  Michele responded immediately to our phone call and after a couple of conversations we scheduled a trip to meet her.  We are from Northern California.  We flew to Chicago and drove to Northwest Indiana in August.  We had a great time with Michele, met Lovee, Jazzie and Trudy, and spent a couple of hours talking about dogs and family.  We were hoping for a puppy out of the next available litter.

Lovee's Lookers were born on September 21.  Michele called us right away, and on December 3 we picked up Mac.  He is the greatest dog, but just as fun is knowing Michele and being part of her world.  She is professional, hard working and so proud of her dogs.  Michele has exceptional knowledge in the breeding, training and care of the dogs.  She is always there for stories, sharing photos and advice.  Mac is now nine months old.  He is smart, behaved, loving and handsome,  Fifty-three champions should say enough about Michele... but it is extra special to be part of the family!

When we started talking about adding a Westie puppy to our family, we went to the Gray's Lake show and asked for recommendations.  Michele's name came up several times as a well-regarded breeder of not only Championship show Westies, but also wonderful pets.  Michele understood we were proceeding carefully because we have a much older Westie at home, and we wanted to be sure that a new puppy could be nice to our (then) 16 year old Jake.  Czarcrest's Captain of the Blue ("Nolan") is an absolute delight and we are so glad he is a part of our family!

Michele takes great care in matching Westies with humans.  The time she spent with us talking about our interest in getting a puppy and whether our goal was a show Westie or simply a great pet showed her wisdom and experience.  We very much enjoy working with Michele as co-owners, but more importantly, we continue to be impressed by her commitment to breeding great Westies who perform well in conformation competition and are also terrific family members!

When our 16 year old Westie, Toby, went over the Rainbow Bridge, we found out that our breeder had retired, so we set out on a search for another Westie.  We were so lucky to have found Michele, and fell in love with her dogs the first time we met them.  In speaking with her, we were sold - not just with her dogs, but with her passion, expertise and enthusiam.  We waited well over a year for a Czarcrest puppy, but getting Riley made it all worthwhile!  Not only did we get an adorable new puppy who has stolen our hearts, we also got a new friend, Michele!

"When Nancy and I lost Duncan , our 11 ½ year old Westie, last January, we were bereft.  In deciding to adopt another Westie, we were most concerned that we deal with an outstanding breeder.  Duncan"s breeder had retired some years ago.  Your name was enthusiastically mentioned by a friend who breeds Scottish Terriers.

We feel lucky to have Malcolm as part of our family and exceedingly fortunate that you were his breeder.  Your professionalism, your warm humanity, your sage advice, and your dedication to the well-being of the West Highland White Terrier breed continue to impress us.

The Westie world in Atlanta is quite active and many are familiar with your excellent reputation.  Malcolm is a delight to Nancy and me and the other Westie people we have met.  They have commented on Malcolm's superb disposition, his handsome coat, his build, his face, and even his gait.  Of course, to us he is just a beloved member of the family but, at the same time, we are delighted to know that we have a fine Westie.  Your advice about feeding, supplements, and obedience training are serving us well.

Just weeks after the litter was born, you told us two things about Malcolm, namely, that he is handsome and that he is a lover.  Everyone who meets him uses the same words to describe him.  A million thanks for what you have done for us and for what you do to maintain health and integrity in a beloved breed."

Looking for our family's third Westie, I encountered some questionable breeding practices and dogs that had major conformation faults.  I turned to the national club for referrals and contacted Michele.  From the very first telephone conversation I was convinced that Czarcrest Westies would be the dogs I wanted.  Michele's success in the show arena is only topped by her consummate handling and rearing of puppies.  Every last detail is carefully taken care of resulting in a beautiful and sweet dog that would be a precious addition to any household.  Our newest addition Royce is a friendly, self assured young man that stops traffic whether out for a walk or in the show ring.  We are looking forward to another Westie from Michele and cannot recommend her breeding program enough to prospective owners."

"When I got my puppy from Michele I was very impressed with how much time she spent weith me explaining his diet and giving me lots of information on how to raise a well adjusted puppy.  She gave me good tips about house training, vaccinations, feeding, supplements, crate training, chew toys and puppy proofing my home for his arrival. Michele is very knowledgeable and she graciously answered all of my new puppy owner questions.  I couldn't be happier with our new addition."

"It will be two years next month since we brought home our little white bundle of joy.

Tucker turned two years old on January 30 and we can't imagine life without him.  He is a very healthy, beautiful and intelligent member of our family.

Czarcrest came highly recommended through the West Highland White Terrier Club of Northern Illinois, and gave proof that good things come to those who wait and our diligence in finding a top notch breeder.

The whole experience with you confirmed we made the right choice in breeder, as you did selecting an owner.  While we were not interested in a show dog, we did want the assurance of a healthy pet.  All your attention to detail, advance planning, education, feeding and veterinary suggestions and assistance went a long way to assuring we brought home a healthy, happy and well-adjusted purebred with quite a proud lineage.  Like a mother, you have always been there to answer our countless questions as new parents.

Tucker receives compliments everywhere we go.  Our groomer says she has never seen a better coat on a dog.  Our veterinarian has been impressed from our first visit two years ago thanks to the groundwork and foundation Czarcrest offers a first time owner.  Airlines have never known a well behaved puppy was in a carry-on Sherpa bag despite Tucker being officially ticketed and manifested in the passenger cabin.

We appreciate the thorough screening process we went through as prospective adoptive parents worthy of supporting, caring and loving this little bundle you helped bring into the world because reciprocally it affirmed your standards as a breeder.

The joy continues and I wouldn't hesitate recommending Czarcrest to anyone truly serious in owning a pet with such remarkable pedigree.  Tucker is an integral part of our family and continues to bring much love and happiness."

"I have had Westies all of my adult life.  I love the tenacity and independence of the breed.  When my 15 year old male, Dewars, passed in 2007, I contacted the Westie Club of America in search of a buddy for my 1 year old female.  After speaking to several breeders, I was so impressed with Michele's knowledge, experience, and dedication to the breed.  I was determined to wait for one of her puppies.  We now have our beautiful Macallan.  He is everything a Westie should be....loving, adorable, smart and just the right amount of curiosity.

I could not be more pleased with the results of my search, and I am convinced that Michele's breeding program is tops."

"Thank you so much for all your time and patience with helping me find the right Westie for our family.  I knew i wanted one of these little dogs for years, but finding a good breeder proved to be a little harder than I thought.  After looking for months, someone gave me your name and the rest is history because we now have our little Colin and we love him so much.  He is so smart and just beautiful!

Your knowledge of this breed and your love for your dogs is so obvious after meeting you as well as your willingness to listen and answer questions that I had because I had many.  It took a quite a while to get one of your puppies, but it was well worth the wait and I would do it again!  Thank you for putting me on your waiting list for one of your Czarcrest Westies.  My husband and I are having a great time!"

Jerry and Wanda Hatmaker

"Both Ron and I want to thank you and Susan Chapman for making it possible to have one of Hope's puppies.  He, Mac, is beautiful and we are having a wonderful time with him.  He is smart and keeps us busy with training and learning more and more about our puppy.  After losing both of our Westies last summer, I had called Michele to inquire about a male puppy.  We were interviewed and we were blessed with a darling Westie puppy in late February.  He is beautiful and we will certainly be in the market for another male when Mac has his training under his belt.

Thanks again for making a difference in our lives with Mac."

"It has been two years since we received our Westie, Higgins, from Czarcrest Westies.  Our goal was to find a high quality breeder to ensure that our pet was bred from good ancestry.  We discovered through our experience with you that not only did we receive a pet of the highest quality, but also very important mentoring from you after we took Higgins home.  We have been following your specific guidelines concerning training, diet, vaccinating and grooming care for HIggins.  He is everything a Westie should be; smart, energetic, happy and fun.  Higgins loves to go to the local dog park, swimming in the pond and stalking vermin in his yard.  He is very loving and brings so much joy to our home and family.  We appreciate the ongoing assistance from you and check out your website often.  Our daughter is now thinking of having her own Westie from Czarcrest Westies."

Earl and Carol Hausl

"It has been over 2 years since we adopted our adorable puppy from Skye's 'eight is enough' litter, and every day with him has been a joy.

Finlay (Scottish for White Warrior) has a loving, sweet but also feisty personality.  He is devoted to all of us and loves to join the family whether it's for a walk in the local forest preserve, or up on the couch watching TV.  (Yes, he actually watches, and when he sees dogs or animals, he jumps off to 'get' them on the TV!)

You'll be happy to know that FInlay is very strong and healthy, and has a beautiful white coat.  He is a little smaller than breed standard, as you told us he probably would be, but we think he's absolutely perfect.  He gets many compliments for his looks and his friendly personality when we go for walks!

We're not quite ready for another Westie yet (especially since we are trying to sell our house and move to Wisconsin), but we do hope to get another in years to come.  Finlay is so wonderful and sociable, and we know he'd love to have a brother or sister to play with (and we all would too)!  You are so devoted to raising these wonderful, sweet dogs, so you know we'll be coming back to you for our third Czarcrest Westie!

Linda and Gary Warren

Michele is a very special Westie breeder.  She puts her whole heart into breeding and raising her GORGEOUS AND SMART WESTIES.  We live in Texas and flew into Indianapolis.  Then we drove an hour and a half to Schererville to get our VERY PRECIOUS girl named Zoey.  It was SO WORTH THE TRIP!!

Zoey was potty trained from the day we brought her home.  Zoey has filled us up, with so much love and laughter.  Michele was always incredibly helpful with regard to answering questions and concerns, prior to and after getting Zoey.  Michele TRULY CARES.
